Jesse
General Manager & Co-Owner
Hobbies:
I love being on the water, whether that is a small sailing boat or a big commercial ship, in a way it has always attracted me. Besides that, I love working on projects in my spare time. I've run Skynode for many years now besides a full time job and still love it every day. The constant thrive to improve things, coming up with new concepts and ideas. Hence, the birth of Serverwave. Working with many amazing people is one of the biggest perks.
Favorite Destination:
It has to be somewhere warm, that is for sure. I still have quite the bucket list so I can't say it for sure, but Spain with in particular Madrid, is high up in the list. I visited there a few times to meet up with Fabrizio and Juanjo.
About my Professional Experience:
In contrary to the other people in the Serverwave team you will read about below, I do not have a background in IT in any way. For me, it all began on a Minecraft server somewhere in 2015 or 2016. I ran the server for some time and met some cool people there. Together with 2 others, we decided to start a Minecraft server host as we had the opinion we could do better than the existing providers, a bit naive I would say in hindsight.
With a grand total of $100 we were set out on our adventure to start a company. At first there were a few things to consider:
- We needed a name
- We needed a website
- We needed software for billing
- We needed a panel to control the servers
- And most importantly, we needed hardware.
After some back and forth we came up with the name "Skynode". We got the domain for it and we were on to the next challenge: The website. Luckily, we knew a guy who was willing to make a free site for us. It had the most cool feature ever, which unfortunately never made to newer generations of the Skynode websites. It had a small tutorial in the left corner of the screen with a guy called "Cloudian", he guided you through the website and helped you make educated choice which plan to choose.

So, name and website acquired. Next on our to do list was a billing environment where people could order a server from. This let us to WHMCS, it was already widely used at the time and by far the best option at that time. This billing environment needed to communicate with a control panel where users could access their servers.
This let us to consider Pterodactyl panel, a brand new control panel at the time which had major advantages over other panels. It did have 1 big hurdle we needed to overcome: It had an addon for WHMCS, but it was not working, and to our knowledge no other host at the time used Pterodactyl as a commercial control panel as it was still very new. We received out to the Pterodactyl team and worked with them to update the WHMCS addon to a state that it was working again.
After renting the hardware from a provider we were set out to start selling servers. Over the years we implemented our own modifications to the panel, improved many other aspects, and Skynode is still selling game servers to this day. Unfortunately, the people who I started Skynode with went their own ways, but I have met so many new amazing people along the way, many of them listed below.
besides Skynode, I've now worked for about 2 years fulltime in maritime shipping. I've worked on Ferries, General cargo vessels, tugboats and now I'm working on a Construction Service Operation Vessel (CSOV). We can take up to 120 people on board and sail to offshore windfarms where we drop them on the turbines to do maintenance and after their shift we pick them back up, and repeat that for 4 weeks, after which I'm 4 weeks at home. Its a bit like a floating hotel.

Favorite Destination: For me, nothing beats visiting my parents' house in a small village in Guadalajara called La Beltraneja.
About my Professional Experience:
I’ve always been drawn to the world of IT systems (though in my current role, I also work as a developer). From a young age, I knew I wanted to pursue a career in technology. Like many, I started by fixing printers, but in my second job, I had the opportunity to work at a Spanish bank, Bankia, as an external systems operator. This role gave me my first real hands-on experience in the field.
Later, I worked as an external contractor for Alstom, troubleshooting and repairing computers. It was there that I realized hardware wasn’t my true passion—systems were. After that, I joined Banco Santander as an external systems administrator, focusing heavily on middleware.
Following that, I had the opportunity to work as an external contractor at Banco de España (the official central bank of Spain). This experience deepened my expertise in large-scale systems and regulatory environments, providing me with a solid foundation in high-stakes environments.
After Banco de España, I joined BNP Paribas as an in-house systems administrator, continuing my work in middleware.
The pivotal moment in my career came in 2016, when BNP Paribas decided to implement Kubernetes. This completely transformed my professional path. I specialized in Kubernetes, which opened up a wealth of opportunities. One of those opportunities led me to Scalefast, where I worked alongside Fabrizio. Scalefast was a game-changer for me—it not only brought me incredible professional growth but also introduced me to amazing people. It made me realize that work can be a genuine source of happiness.
Role inside Serverwave:
In the team I'm the lead backend developer. I develop most of the backend systems, in particularly the server management systems such as server deployment, network ingress, server systems such as SFTP, and much more!
